Safety & Community Guidelines
Confession exists so people can share honestly. That only works if the space stays safe. These guidelines apply to every post, comment, group, and profile — including anonymous ones. Anonymity does not reduce your accountability for what you post.
Who can use Confession
You must be at least 17 years old to use Confession. Accounts we believe belong to someone under this age are removed. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Zero tolerance
The following result in immediate content removal and permanent account termination, with no warning and no appeal:
- Child sexual abuse or exploitation (CSAE), including sexualized depictions of minors in any form — image, text, or illustration
- Grooming, or soliciting contact with a minor
- Non-consensual intimate imagery, or threats to share private images
- Credible threats of violence, or content that incites or celebrates violence
- Content promoting terrorism, human trafficking, or organized crime
- Encouraging or instructing others toward suicide or self-harm
Content involving child sexual abuse is reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and to Ethiopian law enforcement. We preserve associated account data and cooperate fully with lawful investigations.
Not allowed
These are removed on review, and repeated violations lead to suspension or permanent removal:
- Pornography or sexually explicit material, including explicit written descriptions
- Harassment, bullying, stalking, or coordinated attacks on an individual
- Hate speech, or attacks based on ethnicity, religion, nationality, disability, gender, age, or sexual orientation
- Doxxing — publishing anyone’s phone number, address, workplace, ID number, or other identifying details without consent
- Graphic violence or gore posted for shock value
- Sale or promotion of illegal drugs, weapons, or stolen goods
- Spam, scams, phishing, and impersonation of real people
- Posting someone else’s private information or private conversations without their consent
How to report
Every post and comment can be reported directly in the app. Open the three-dot menu on a post and choose Report, or tap the flag icon beneath a comment. Reports are anonymous — the person you report is never told who reported them.
You can also block any user from the same menu. Blocking hides their posts and comments from you and hides yours from them. And you can hide any individual post from your feed without reporting it.
If you cannot report something in the app, email support@confession.et with a link to the content.
How we moderate
Content is filtered automatically at the point of posting, and every user report is reviewed by a human moderator within 24 hours. Content in the zero-tolerance list is removed on sight. Other violations may result in removal, a warning, temporary suspension, or permanent termination depending on severity and history.
Moderation actions are logged. If you believe your content was removed in error, email us within 30 days and a different moderator will review the decision.
If you are in danger
Confession is not an emergency service and our team cannot respond in real time. If you or someone else is at immediate risk, contact local emergency services. In Ethiopia, dial 907 for emergency response or 991 for the police.
